Abstract
Since 1965 we have experienced 2 cases of cryptococcosis which one was the cryptococcal meningitis and the other was cryptococcal hepatitis.
The meningitis patient was diagnosed after CSF examination and was treated with amphotericin B as a schedule. On the other hepatitis patient the infection presenting as an acute abdominal emergency is of particular interest, since it compels the surgeon to consider an other entity in the differential diagnosis of "acute abdomen."
Because of symptoms of an acute abdominal emergency, an exploratory laparotomy was performed. Cryptococcal hepatitis, producing mild hepatic dysfunction, was thus diagnosed.
The presenting symptomatology was due to peritoneal irritation from granulomatous involvement of the liver, suggestive of several other conditions which require surgical intervention.
